The Ultimate Burrito

Thinking about your next dining hall meal and wanting to add your own personal flair?  Consider trying this featured recipe utilizing ingredients that already exsist at NDH/SDH.

While takeout restaurant burritos are delicious and made with natural and generally nutritious ingredients, their large size and generous portions of meat, cheese, and sour cream add high levels of sodium, fat, cholesterol, and carbs.  To make a lighter alternative right on campus, make sure to watch those particular toppings and focus on loading up with vegetables.

What you need:

  • Wrap (Sandwhich Station)
  • Grilled Chicken (Grill)
  • Mexican Rice (Pan-American)
  • Shredded Lettuce (Pan-American)
  • Salsa or Diced Tomatoes (Pan-American)
  • Guacamole (Pan-American)
  • Sour Cream (Pan-American)
  • Black Beans (Salad Bar)
  • Peppers (Salad Bar)
  • Other Veggies as Desired

What to do:

Microwave the wrap for 30 seconds to make it more flexible.  Fill with your ingredients of choice, fold up, and grill in the panini press.

Make it a meal:

Steamed broccoli from the Homestyle stations keeps with the comfort-food theme while providing fiber, protein, Vitamin A, Vitamin C, and iron.

Buen provecho!
